What is a white tea shot?

A classic white tea shot (or “Vodka White Tea”) is a white colored vodka based drink made of five simple ingredients and served in a shot glass.

Although this is made with vodka, some bartenders make a white tea shot with tequila or white rum. Keep scrolling, because we include a recipe for those other variations.

Of course it can be made in a shot, or you can double it for a couple of shots, turn it into a cocktail, or make a pitcher of it for a party!

What does it taste like?

White tea has sweet honey notes and floral flavors, with earthy notes and white peony. White tea shots with vodka have a sweet floral flavor without the use of actual white tea. These shots taste sweet with a slight sour punch and fruity notes of peach and citrus. It has two forms of alcohol from vodka and peach schnapps. You can taste a slight bit of alcohol but the citrus and simple syrup make it sweet.

Ready to make these fun shots of goodness?! Me too, so grab these tools and lets get started.

  • cocktail shaker – if you don’t have a cocktail shaker you can use a mason jar with a lid to shake it in or stir in a cup with a spoon then strain out the ice.
  • jigger – this is for measuring ½ ounce and ounces. I highly recommend using a jigger, but if you don’t have one you can use a tablespoon. 1 tablespoon is ½ ounce and 2 tablespoons is 1 ounce.
  • shot glasses – this white tea shot recipe makes about 3 ounces so be sure to use shot glasses that hold it. I recommend using 2 ounce to 4 ounce shot glasses.

Key Ingredients

What’s in a white tea shot? Just 5 ingredients and a lot of flavor!

  • ½ ounce vodka – choose a good vodka for the best flavor. I recommend Tito’s Handmade Vodka, Grey Goose Vodka, or Ketel One Vodka.
  • ½ ounce peach schnapps – this give the recipe sweetness and fruity peach flavor.
  • ½ ounce sour mix – if you don’t have sweet and sour mix see the recipe below. You can also combine lemon and lime juice with a few drops of liquid Stevia so its sweet and sour without extra sugar.
  • ½ ounce lemon-lime soda, sprite, or lemonade – this makes a white tea shot sweet and zesty! (You can also just use lemon juice and simple syrup)
  • ice cubes – shots always taste best chilled so add ice the cocktail mixer so it comes out nice and chilled into shot glasses.

Extra vodka? Try this mango cocktail vodka drink made with fresh mango juice.

How do you make a tea shot?

How to make a white tea shot or green tea shot? For white tea add equal parts of vodka, peach schnapps, sour mix, and lemon-lime soda to a cocktail shaker. Here are the details:

Step 1: Fill a cocktail shaker with ice.

Step 2: Add vodka, peach schnapps, sour mix and lemon-lime soda, sprite, or lemonade to the shaker. Give it a good shake to blend and chill the ingredients. Strain it over a shot glass or a few if you multiply the recipe.

Enjoy as is, or to add a little extra pretty flair then garnish it with a fresh mandarin slice, lemon wedge or a lime wedge.

As always, be sure to check out the full recipe details in the recipe card below.

Can I make this without a cocktail shaker?

If you do not have a cocktail shaker you can mix the ice, vodka, peach schnapps, and sour mix in a cup using a spoon or shake it in a mason jar with a lid. Then strain it over the shot glasses, again to remove the ice from falling in.

Multiplying the recipe

A good rule of thumb is that 2 tablespoons equals 1 ounce. If you don’t have a ounce measuring cup to measure, just measure by tablespoons. So if you want to double the recipe just use 2 tablespoons each of vodka, peach schnapps, sour mix, and a splash of sprite lemonade.

To make a big batch of this white tea shot vodka drink, You can convert the ounces into cups to serve more and make a larger batch. Check out how many ounces in a cup for conversions.

Make it a cocktail

Sip this white tea shot longer and make it last (and a little less potent)! You can turn it into a white tea vodka cocktail. Mix and pour the shot into a tall glass with ice and add extra sprite or lemonade to fill the glass.

White Tea Shot vs Green Tea Shot

What is the difference between a white tea shot and a green tea shot? Not much and guess what? Both don’t even have white tea bags or green tea bags in them! Unless you make the white rum version below.

White tea shot – vodka is the main alcoholic ingredient and keeps the color of the shot white.

Green tea shot – uses Jameson Irish Whiskey which makes the color of the shot a greenish yellow hue.

Homemade Sour Mix

Homemade sour mix is so much better for you than store bought and there are no fillers and preservatives. You can quickly make it at home and store it in the refrigerator for up to 1 month for other drinks and cocktails.

  • 1 cup water
  • ½ cup sugar – or use monk fruit for less sugar
  • ¼ cup lime juice
  • ¼ cup lemon juice

STEP: On a stove heat the water and sugar until the sugar dissolves. Remove from the stove and let it cool completely. Once cooled, add the lime and lemon juice and mix it together. Store in an airtight jar in the refrigerator for up to 1 month.

  • Chill the vodka for a less alcohol taste. Shots are made to be served cold which makes them a bit refreshing!
  • Use homemade sour mix for more natural flavor. Many store-bought versions have preservatives and dyes that you can taste and give off a “fake flavor”. To avoid that use our homemade sour mix recipe in the recipe notes.

Storing Leftovers

If you make a big batch you might have leftovers! You can store those in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 1 month.

Or just have a good excuse to have another gathering next weekend!

  • ½ ounce sprite or lemonade
  • Ice cubes

Use a cocktail shaker and add the ice, tequila, peach schnapps, and sour mix then close it and give it a good shake. Strain and pour it over a shot glass. Top it off with a splash of sprite or lemonade.

Remove the tea bag or strain the leaves before drinking.
